When and Where

Mostly it happens on a Sunday morning while decent folk are in bed with the Telegraph magazine (or whatever), starting at  9:00am from Calver.  Some ride there and some (sharp intake of breath) drive there.  (And some park out of site and pretend to have ridden out.)

So we don't get bored we sometimes start elsewhere, typically Barlboro for a flat(ish) ride out east, or Malin Bridge for a decidedly unflat ride oop north.  The exact start point and time is published on the website along with a 'what 3 words' location - click the '///' link to see it on a map.

Club rides are generally fairly civilised and meander up hill and up dale trying not to get lost, or have anyone get differently lost to the rest of us, but just occasionally (?) someone will have a rush of blood to the head and go steaming off up some big 'ill.  They slow down at the top and wait for the rest of us to catch up - mostly.

We typically have 50-ish miles on the clock by the time we get back and average around 12-14 mph - maybe a little more if it's flat.  (Hah - who are we kidding!)

Mid-week Rides

Some of us are retired and like to let off steam during the week* as well as on Sundays so we meet near Hathersage on Wednesday and Friday afternoons for a ride around the Hope Valley.  Starting at 1:00pm at the big layby on the left just beyond Hathersage on the road to Bamford [///towers.bypasses.assure].  We typically pootle out through Bradwell then back over to Hope, Castleton and maybe a trip up Edale, then somebody with more energy than sense will get restless and it will be 'eyeballs out' all the way back to Hathersage.

Sometimes the route will vary - maybe Abney for those with strong legs and short memories, or maybe a trip up to the dams, but we always finish with tea and buns, and putting the world to rights, at Hathersage Pool Cafe.

* More likely the wives have conspired to get us out from under their feet for a few hours!

A club run from the inside

A couple of short video clips from recent club runs.

Long Hill and the Goyt Valley

With Long Hill being closed to traffic it seemed a shame not to take advantage...

Approaching Bradfield

A club run north from Malin Bridge had a most enjoyable descent to Low Bradfield on the way back...
